Today, Mile High Academy went to a lockout for approximately 45 minutes, from 9:02 am – 9:45 am. Our Principal, Toakase Vunileva, received a text from authorities that goes to DPS school administrators if there is an event within 5-10 miles of the school. The text was “Shots fired – go on lockout” and then she received another text telling her to go off lockout. Everything is done as a precaution. And because student safety is our number one priority we wanted to let you know that all Standard Response Protocol was followed and exactly what we do to ensure student safety.
Lock Out Process:
Once Principal receives notification from authorities the following steps are taken for our student safety:
Lock Out is called when there is a threat or hazard outside of the school building
Students: Return to inside of building, Do business as usual
Teachers: Recover students and staff from outside building, Increased situational awareness, Do business as usual, Take roll, Account for students
All information can be found in our Standard Response Protocol page.
